Consider Storm Windows
By Stacy Argo of A-Plus Glass Services
Windows are extremely susceptible to wind damage and become vulnerable to repeat damage caused by multiple storms. Single pane windows are not as strong or as energy efficient as double pane windows. However, the seal separating the two panes can fail on double pane windows, allowing outside air and moisture to fog up the glass. One way to repair this problem is to remove and replace the glass while leaving the window unit in place.
Replacing or repairing older or damaged windows can be costly and may even take weeks to repair. A better solution may be to install storm windows to protect your existing windows. Storm windows are usually installed over the exterior of your existing windows for an additional barrier against adverse weather conditions.
Storm windows are designed to withstand heavy rain and to reduce the transmission of heat, allowing homes to stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter and they are also energy efficient. This will allow for a more comfortable year-round environment in your home.
But energy savings are not the only benefits of storm windows. Because they reduce air flow through and around existing windows, they reduce the dust and pollen that can accumulate in a home. Storm windows provide an extra layer of insulation, enhance livability by reducing outside noise and increase safety making it harder for burglars to enter your home.
Storm windows are not only practical, they are beautiful as well. There are a variety of styles and color choices for storm window frames which can give a fresh look to any home, especially older homes. Optional screens and various tints are available to reduce glare and harmful UV rays, and to improve the thermal performance of your existing windows. The curb appeal of your home will certainly improve when attractive storm windows are installed.
If you want an affordable alternative to replacement windows, consider making the investment in storm windows.
